The new breakout rooms feature enables the call moderator to separate the call participants into smaller groups. This feature is especially useful in situations where there are privacy concerns but call participants still need to speak openly. For example:
In a medical environment, a doctor may want to talk to a patient in one breakout room and consult with other medical professionals in another room.
In a judicial environment, an attorney may want to discuss a case with a defendant in one breakout room and with judicial assistants in another room.
Desktop users of breakout rooms have two main roles: moderators and participants (non-moderators):
Moderators can:
Create, delete, or modify breakout rooms before or during calls.
Create one room at a time or create rooms in bulk—up to 20 breakout rooms at a time besides the main room.
Search participants across all rooms.
Record single, multiple, or all rooms.
Broadcast to one or all rooms.
Create dedicated moderator PINs for the rooms.
Moderate the main room and the breakout rooms.
View and respond to requests for help.
Participants can:
Be moved to breakout rooms.
Request help from the moderator.
Receive broadcast messages from the moderator, but only if they’re on this latest version of VidyoConnect for Desktop.
Participants with accounts on the tenant (logged-in participants) can also become moderator of the conference (co-host) by using the moderator PIN for the main conference, or become a breakout room moderator by using the moderator PIN for the breakout room.
To use breakout rooms, you must have VidyoPortal version 23.1.1 or later as well as VidyoConnect for Desktop version 23.1.0 or later. If any of the call participants are using mobile devices, they must have version 23.1.0 or later of the VidyoConnect mobile app.
Participants on older versions of the desktop, WebRTC, or mobile app can join the main conference, but they cannot be moved to breakout rooms. The moderator is made aware of this fact so they can communicate accordingly.
